The mehndi is often the most relaxed night of a South Asian wedding, and that’s exactly why it’s full of moments worth filming. Here are a few ideas to share with whoever is holding the camcorder.

1. The first lines of henna

Ask your filmer to get close while the artist starts the design. A few seconds of the cone moving is all it takes.

2. The dholki circle

Film the singing from inside the circle, not from across the room. The off-key verses are the best part.

3. The aunties’ dance

Nobody plans it, and it always happens. Keep the camera rolling.

Tip: hand the camcorder to a different cousin every hour. Every person sees the night differently.

4. Quiet moments

Grandparents watching from the side, a parent helping with a dupatta. These are the clips that make people cry in the final film.

What’s next?

When the night is over, pop the camcorder back in its case. After the wedding, ship it back and we’ll edit everything into your highlight film.
